Getting to the point of… Acupuncture Awareness Week 2023

#AcupunctureAwarenessWeek2023

It’s here! The start of Acupuncture Awareness Week 2023: Getting to the point of it – a national campaign, launched by the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), to highlight the benefits of traditional acupuncture.

We know traditional acupuncture is brilliant and this week, collectively, we get to shout it from the rooftops!

We want everyone to know that:

  • acupuncture really is a valid healthcare choice, used to help manage a range of conditions
  • the BAcC is the UK’s leading professional body for traditional acupuncturists, upholding high standards of training and safety in practice
  • prospective patients can visit the BAcC website to find a BAcC acupuncturist near them

But you don’t just need to take our word for it, take a look at this. Taken from a longer film commissioned by the BAcC in 2020, we think those interviewed sum up the positive impact traditional acupuncture can have, beautifully!

In preparation for this awareness week, the BAcC commissioned a national opinion poll across a random sample of 2,000+ UK citizens, aged 18 and over, as well as carrying out its own survey amongst its members. Both offered some very insightful and positive results.

As we pick up the baton from Complementary Therapies week (20-27 March), the narrative of the press release explores some key issues, set against the context of current NHS waiting lists/ post-COVID backlog. Read our latest press release here.

The press release and survey results also provide a positive platform to discuss the important, but sometimes controversial, issue of a fear of needles or pain, offering an opportunity to redress any misconceptions.

This week, we will be ‘getting to the point’ of different areas of interest, including:

  • What exactly is traditional acupuncture and how does it work?
  • The research and supporting evidence available
  • The importance of a PSA accreditation and high standards of training
  • The BAcC’s role in upholding professional standards
  • The benefits of BAcC membership

And with our PR/media campaign gaining momentum, we’re delighted that patient case stories, provided by our fantastic members, have been tickling the interest of regional and national press, helping to shine a light on the positive impact traditional acupuncture has had on people suffering with a variety of health conditions.

We’re pleased to confirm we’ve secured mentions in regional, national and online publications, including some broadcast interviews, so please keep an eye out for these as they are published and shared over the coming weeks.

Throughout this week, we’d love your support – you can follow our daily blogs on our campaign and news pages and follow us on our social channels.
