Julie Stone

An academic medical lawyer and ethicist, Julie has worked for over thirty years with healthcare regulators, professional bodies and NHS organisations. She was the inaugural Deputy Director of the Council for Healthcare Regulator Excellence (now the Professional Standards Authority), where she helped reshape regulation in the post-Shipman era. She has held senior academic roles in the UK and abroad. Author of landmark texts on legal and ethical aspects of complementary medicine, Julie has been highly influential in regulatory debates relating to acupuncture and CAM. She is a Trustee of the Institute of Medical Ethics, and helped draft the IME’s 2019 Undergraduate Medical Law and Ethics Curriculum.  Julie has held a variety of Board level roles, and is currently a NED at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Julie is also a yoga teacher and a stand-up comedienne, using comedy as a vehicle to teach ethics.
